Bianco Plastica si distingue dalle opere coetanee per dimensioni e soggetto.
Eseguito nel 1968, Bianco Plastica incarna un esempio maturo della serie più importante e celebrata di Alberto Burri: le Plastiche. Dopo aver sperimentato con i Sacchi, il Legno e dopo aver torchiato pezzi di ferro, Burri si dedica alla composizione di plastiche di ogni dimensione e fattezza. La tendenza riduttiva e nichilista delle Plastiche impone agli occhi di chi guarda di scandagliare i soggetti raffigurati, eviscerarne un contesto, un “paesaggio”, carpendo la forza e il pathos tra gli strati di plastica e colore.
L’opera, d’imponenti dimensioni, presenta una sfera di un nero profondo e molto intenso. Questa emerge su una base candida, che rende il contrasto assolutamente netto. A concludere l’opera, uno strato di plastica che immobilizza la figura e la sigilla. La particolarità di questo esemplare di Bianco Plastica è l’assenza di combustione. L’artista ha preferito non mutare lo stato dei materiali utilizzati, decidendo di non sottoporli a combustione, elevando a un piano diverso, altro, l’opera. In questo caso la plastica e il colore rimangono intatti, rappresentano in assoluto se stessi senza essere corrotti dalla forza distruttrice della fiamma. Convivono pacificamente sulla tela, trasmettendo una sensazione di pace ed eternità.
James Jonhnson Sweeney ricorda come le opere di Burri possano essere assimilate alla carne umana e la mano dell’artista a quella di un chirurgo e di come l’artista faccia rivivere i “pezzi”, li faccia addirittura sanguinare, unendoli insieme nella creazione dei suoi capolavori.
Burri, artista tanto eclettico quanto sfuggente per le sue rare dichiarazioni pubbliche, sperimentò varie tecniche utilizzando i materiali più disparati. Bianco Plastica risale al 1968, periodo di fiorente produzione in cui quest’opera spicca per la sua diversità.Bianco Plastica distinguishes itself from works of the same age by size and subject. Executed in 1968, Bianco Plastica embodies a mature example of the most important and celebrated series by Alberto Burri, his Plastiche (plastics). After experimenting with the Sacchi (burlap sacks), the Legni (works in wood) and hammered iron, Burri dedicated himself to the composition of these ‘plastics’ of all sizes and shapes. The reductive and nihilistic tendency of the Plastiche forces the beholder to deconstruct the layered image without the help of obvious representation. The technique eviscerates any context, all the while creating a ‘landscape’ which captures the strength and pathos between the layers of plastic and colour. This work, of imposing dimensions, presents a sphere of a deep and very intense black. This emerges out of a candid base, which makes the contrast absolutely clear. To finish the work, he places a layer of plastic that immobilizes the piece and seals it from the air. The particularity of this particular example is the absence of any combustion. The artist preferred, in this case, not to change the state of the materials used, deciding not to subject them to combustion, elevating the work to a brand new level. In this case the plastic and the color remain intact; they represent themselves without being corrupted by the destructive force of the flame. They coexist peacefully on the canvas, conveying a feeling of peace and eternity. James Jonhnson Sweeney remembers how the works of Burri can be assimilated to human flesh and the artist's hand to that of a surgeon and how the artist makes the pieces live again, even making them bleed, uniting them together in the creation of his masterpieces. Burri, an artist as eclectic as he is elusive for his rare public statements, experimented with various techniques using the most disparate materials. Bianco Plastica dates back to 1968, a period of flourishing production in which this work stands out for its diversity.
