This work appears to be in generally good overall condition. There are minor traces of craquelures visible under close inspection. There is a shallow scratch by the berret. under UV light are visible tiny retouching along upper right margin, lower margin, by the top and the bottom of the bottle and over the grey drape.

The sale proceeds for this lot will benefit philanthropic activities Nel 1933 Guttuso, riferendosi alla pittura di Picasso, scriveva: ”Se la pittura non penetra l’oggetto e non ne svela le vibrazioni, se non arriva partendo dall’oggetto e dall’osservazione sentimentale di esso alla creazione di un equivalente plastico non si perviene alla poesia, ma si precipita nella fotografia”.  Le parole dell’artista sembrano volerci aiutare a comprendere come Natura morta col basco non rappresenti un fermo immagine, una fotografia, di uno spazio che si colloca nel tempo, ma il processo poetico di rappresentazione filtrata dell’autore.

In 1933, Guttuso wrote in reference to Picasso's painting: "If a painting does not penetrate the object and does not divulge its vibrations, if it does not come from the object and from the sentimental observation of it. The creation of a plastic equivalent does not arrive at poetry, but rushes into photography". The artist's words seem to want to help us to understand how Natura morta con basco does not represent a still image, a photograph, a space that is placed in time, but rather the poetic process of filtered representation of the author.
