“My style is boyish, not infantile. It is very difficult to fake it… to capture this quality and project yourself into the style of a child. It’s something you have to find inside yourself.”

Every one of his works is the product of a dialogue with the artist’s internal puer, which provides a breath of vitality that we must never renounce. Twombly’s production evidences his constant effort to free up that part of his mind which is formed and left behind in only a few years but which affects us for the rest of our lives. It is only possible to sustain this internal struggle if one feels in his bones the extreme need. In his boyish mark-making we find all the traces of the human existence, approached with the sagacity of an adult, but executed with the expressive means of a child. The signs that swirl across the paper evoke an atavistic need to reveal his childish spirit. It is a leap into the new and unknown.
