Condition

Overall in very good condition consistent with age and use. The wooden surfaces present with minor rubbing shallow dents, scuffs and surface scratches concentrated to the exterior edges and bases of the legs. The lower front proper left and right roundels with a few hairline cracks. The former with one radiating from the right proper corner vertically and measures approximately 3 inches and one at the top measuring approximately 2 inches. The latter with two hairlines running vertically at the center and proper right side, each radiating from the top, the longest approximately 7 inches. All appear stable. The metal surfaces with oxidation throughout. The rear proper left corner and proper right lower roundel each with a missing triangular inlay. The brass stringing near the same roundel with minor losses and lifting. The proper left lower roundel with lifting to the stringing and is partially detached. The parchment elements with minor rubbing and gentle fading to the painted motifs with lifting to the edges in some areas, concentrated to the upper rear edge of the backrest. The upper section of the proper right backrest roundel with a minor tear measuring approximately 2 inches. The proper left backrest roundel with a minor scratch measuring approximately 1 1/2 inches. The front lower central panel with hairline cracks on the left and right sides with isolated minor losses to these areas. The cushions with scattered rubbing, staining and discoloration. Each cushion with some dryness and cracking consistent with age and use. The center of one side of one cushion with a tear measuring approximately 1 1/2 inches. The rope and tassels with scattered wear, gentle fading and discoloration. The painted white wood panels to the reverse are possibly replaced. An enchanting and very rare work by Carlo Bugatti in very well preserved, age appropriate condition that includes all of the key elements desirable in a work by this designer.
