with rounded back, carved in front with four birds beneath a rectangular panel, two rams' heads supporting an olive garland, and an eagle in each corner, the inscription of later date.

Condition

Surface evenly weathered. Minor chips and abrasions. Inscription is modern. Lid perhaps ancient. One of the lid's corner acroteria is restored and repaired.

The inscription to L. Casperius Epaphroditus, which scholars deem to be a modern addition, was probably copied from one in Naples (CIL VI.14480; Catalogo delle iscrizioni latine del Museo di Napoli, vol. 1, Naples, 2000, p. 114-115, no. 218).
