Condition

There is frame abrasion at extreme edges and the work may be slightly dirty. There appears to be a 1/4-inch horizontal scratch in the sky and a few dots of possible loss near the silo. There are other areas of exposed white ground layer that appear to be a result of the artist's technique. Under UV: there is no apparent inpainting.

The present work formerly belonged to Arthur Collins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. One of Iowa's greatest and most successful businessmen, Collins founded the Collins Radio Company in 1933. Under his leadership, this communications and avionics company grew into an international giant and one of Iowa’s largest employers. Collins Radio Company played a major role in the radio technology used during the Second World War and the Korean War. Perhaps most notably, Neil Armstrong used a Collins Radio to broadcast his iconic line, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” during the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.

This painting will be included as no. 1959-1960.002 in Joseph S. Czestochowski's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist’s work to be published by International Arts® at www.catrais.org.
