The sheet is hinged to the support at two places on the reverse top edge. There is fine surface cracking in the darker pigments.

Feeding Ledge was painted on Southern Island in Tenants Harbor, Maine, which Jamie Wyeth purchased from his parents, Andrew and Betsy James Wyeth, in the early 1990s. Feeding Ledge was the first work the artist created on the island.
