Condition
The canvas has been lined. There is some light undulation in the canvas in the upper framing edge and in the upper left corner. There is a very fine pattern of hairline craquelure throughout, however only visible upon close inspection. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some areas of old, residual varnish and a circa 3 by 5cm area of retouching in the floor in the lower right quadrant, possibly addressing an old tear. Some other pin-head sized spots of cosmetic retouching are also visible in the chair and in the man's foot. Overall, this work is in good condition and is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame, with a nameplate. Colours are brighter in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
