Condition
The canvas has been lined. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure throughout, mostly visible in the upper right quadrant, and there are some areas of restoration which are clearly visible to the naked eye, including a circa 10 by 5cm old damage in the upper right together with a horizontal line of discoloured retouching covering a canvas seam or join parallel to the lower horizontal framing edge. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals areas of discoloured varnish, areas of retouching addressing the above repairs and some other small, isolate spots. The appearance of this work could be improved with a surface cleaning and by addressing the aforementioned retouchings. Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
