Condition

This magnificent sculpture is preserved in unusually good condition in view of its complexity and fragility. The upper arm of the female figure and tip of the male crown have been broken off and refixed. There are minor losses to the skull finials on the female crown, the jewellery drapery and garlands of skulls. Several hardstone inlays and ritual elements are missing. There has also been minor restoration to small breaks and bruises on the base. The lustrous brilliant gilding is preserved extremely well and the consecration plate at the back is intact.

勝樂輪

鎏金銅勝樂金剛像,原應為丹薩替寺而製,紐瓦爾風格特徵明確,十三世紀以降,西藏供養人為丹薩替寺製佛教造像,它們富麗莊嚴,展現內瓦爾風格特徵,盛名遠播。勝樂金剛及明妃,造型風格成熟,線條流暢有力,動感躍然如生,鎏金厚亮,間綴多彩寶石,耀眼攝人。造像腰背處有突出插銷,原應用於把造像固定寺內。隨同朱塞佩.圖齊(Giuseppe Tucci)考察西藏之意大利籍攝影師梅爾(Pietro Francesco Mele)在1948年攝下丹薩替寺之舍利靈塔,舊照刊於其著作,《Tibet》,加爾各答,1975年,亦見於 Olaf Czaja 與 Adriana Proser,《Golden Visions of Densatil: A Tibetan Buddhist Monastery》,紐約,2014年,頁20-21。

從相中可見當時寺內供佛之狀,也可悉佛塔造像,與此像有極為相似之處,如照片中的金剛亥母像,也飾有人頭瓔珞、骷髏頭冠,並綴耳飾、手觸、臂釧,精細華麗,加上手足動姿自然,搖曳多姿。

勝樂金剛與明妃金剛亥母,起源於中古時期的印度東部,原用於密宗勝樂金剛密法修行,象徵智慧與慈悲之結合,參考 John C. Huntington 與 Dina Bangdel,《The Circle of Bliss: Buddhist Meditational Art》,哥倫布,2003年,頁264-268。

丹薩替寺屬噶舉教派,注重修持勝樂金剛。上接丹薩替開寺住持帕木竹巴.多吉傑布(1100-1170年),據說第二代住持止貢巴(1143-1217年)曾睹聖像顯靈,見勝樂金剛矗立於西藏扎日地區水晶山巔之天宮,二千八百位神祇環繞其周。魯賓藝術博物館藏一幅約製於公元1200年之唐卡,描繪勝樂金剛與金剛亥母站於蓮座之上,環飾多吉傑布之足印,錄於 Olaf Czaja 與 Adriana Proser,前述出處,頁176-7,編號46。

參考或出自丹薩替寺之佛像殘件,鎏金、嵌寶、造像風格與此例甚是相近,載於 Amy Heller,《Tibetan Art: Tracing the Development of Spiritual Ideals and Art in Tibet, 600-2000 A.D.》,米蘭,1999年,頁158-159,圖版83-84。並比較另一件十四世紀藏傳金剛總持像,見烏爾裡希.馮.施羅德,《Indo-Tibetan Bronzes》,香港,1981年,頁330,圖版XII,頁365,圖98E。北京首都博物館藏一尊勝樂金剛像,風格造形與此像相類,應同出自丹薩替寺,錄於喜瑪拉雅藝術資源網,編號59818。另一尊十五世紀勝樂金剛像,冠飾、骷髏瓔珞、料石鑲嵌、蓮座沿邊圓珠,及足踏神祇,與此略異,2015年3月15日售於紐約蘇富比,編號1029,現為美國重要私人珍藏。

Olaf Czaja 與 Adriana Proser,前述出處,頁55-62,記述丹薩替寺尚未被毀之前,曾造訪之遊客回憶寺中佛塔壯麗輝煌,震撼人心,如此殊勝之景,如今仍能藉此尊勝樂金剛像遙想追憶。
