well potted with soft rounded sides resting on a low splayed foot, covered with a rich layer of creamy-white slip and a glossy transparent glaze stopping short of the foot revealing the pale buff body, the interior vibrantly painted with a carp in bright iron-red enamel in front of a lotus flower with red bloom and green leaf and further green water weeds, surrounded by red and green bands, the red accentuated by yellow dots, the green enamel partly iridescent, the centre of the interior showing a ring of five spur marks repeated on the footring

Condition
This bowl has overpainting to approximately 2/3 of the rim to a depth of circa 4cm, covering two or possibly three crescent-shaped rim chips and extending down into the medallion over a circa 7 x 5cm, area around the tail of the fish. There is a small flake (0.7x0.3cm) to the overpaint of the interior just under the rim. The interior base has a circa 7cm, crescent-shaped glaze hairline. The rim with several small areas of glaze pull and frits.

此盌純樸雅素，筆觸靈動。紅綠彩配濃淡相宜，魚游蓮池，瀟灑自如。宋金時期，磁州各窰多燒彩瓷，尤見於河南地區。此類盌須作二次燒製，素坯先敷化妝土罩透明釉初燒，後再施釉彩二次燒就。此類彩瓷為中國最早之彩繪瓷品，意義重大。
臨宇山人宋瓷珍藏中見一相若蓮魚紋盌，唯缺黃色圓點圖案，售於香港佳士得2015年12月2日，編號2832。另有一略粗類例及一近似紋樣魚藻紋盌，可見《精彩：金元紅綠彩瓷器中的神祇與世相》，北京，2009年，圖版 197、196。第三件類盌藏於東京石洞美術館，刊於朝日新聞，《宋瓷》，東京，1999，圖版108。
