The finely executed illustration in narrative format depicting King Dasaratha consulting with sage Vasistha in the upper register and the sage exiting the palace in the lower register as he is led away by the King's trusted charioteer Sumantra.

The scene is set at the beginning of the epic Ramayana and portrays King Dasaratha's quandary at the risk posed to his sixteen year old son Rama who has been requested by the powerful sage Vishwamitra to accompany him to his forest abode and vanquish the demons there who have been disturbing his penance.

Condition

Good and stable overall condition. Slight abrasions to pigment on the light red folio borders. Three small holes to the paper on the upper middle folio border on the upper right edges and the upper center red canopy, have been stabilized with backing paper. The image itself is in excellent condition. This lot has not been inspected outside its frame.
