此對書箱主要用木紋生動的楠木癭子製成，晚明早清工匠似常選用楠木癭子配合黄花梨木製造家具。

傳世書箱數量不少，多以紅木、楠木和其他柴木造。用黃花梨木與楠木癭子造似未見公開發表他例，異常珍稀。
