the recumbent beast with head raised and turned in an alert expression, with protruding eyes and a semi-open mouth revealing fangs, detailed with gilt fur overall and fur tufts along the ridged spine, the blue-ground body brightly decorated with coral-red, turquoise, black, white, green and yellow enamels

There is an area of retouching to the enamel running from the front paw extending around to its hind quarters and ending near the back foot (approx. 22 cm long). The flower closest to its head has also been retouched and there is a filled spot on the top of the lion's head. There is the expected minor areas of loss and pitting to the enamel.
