Signed CARTIER, twice numbered 5435A, French maker's marks. Inscribed BTE SGDG. Sugarloaf rubies well matched in colour, purplish red of medium strong saturation, with typical surface reaching inclusions, chips and abrasions. Carved jadeite translucent, green of medium strong saturation, with two chips. Diamonds bright and lively. Onyx with some scratches. Two collapsible hooks. Signs of normal wear to the metal. In very good condition. Gross weight approximately 42 grams.

美國社交名媛莫娜·俾斯麥（Mona Bismarck），本名莫娜·特拉維斯·斯特拉達（Mona Travis Strader），1897年生於肯塔基州路易維爾市（Louisville）。27歲時便已經歷兩段婚姻，先於1917年嫁予富商亨利·施萊辛格（Henry Schlesinger），後改嫁有全美第一美男子之稱的銀行家傑姆斯·伊文·布什（James Irving Bush）。1924年，莫娜定居紐約，邂逅全美數一數二的富豪、比自己年長24歲的哈理森·威廉斯（Harrison Williams），二人於1926年成婚。威廉斯名下擁有當時全世界最大、最昂貴的遊艇「戰士號」（Warrior），新婚後，二人登船歡度蜜月、環遊世界。蜜月旅行後，二人遷入位於紐約第五大道上段的新喬治亞式風格大宅，在長島北岸灣村（Bayville）購置大型物業橡樹角（Oak Point），又在棕櫚灘購下住宅，更在意大利卡布里島（Capri）置業。莫娜丈夫富甲天下，她因此得以沉浸在藝術之中。她購下戈雅（Goya）、帖波洛（Tiepolo）、弗拉格納爾（Fragonard）等大師作品裝飾紐約大宅，又委託荷西·馬利亞·薩特（José Maria Sert）及斯利·莫姆（Syrie Maugham）等當代設計師為其佈置家居。

莫娜亦與攝影師塞西爾·比頓（Cecil Beaton）結成好友，友誼終身不渝，更不時擔任他的相中主角。他形容她是「三十年代絕無僅有的絕色美人……是奢華生活與高雅品味的結晶。」三十年代早期，莫娜的驚人美貌與優雅丰姿，已獲得大西洋兩岸的注意。1933年，Chanel、Molyneux、Vionnet、Lelong及Lanvin等法國各大高級服裝設計商舉行年度投票，選出「全世界最具服裝品味的女人」，莫娜在此選舉中當選。二十至三十年代，莫娜拍下一系列肖像，佩戴別具風格的古董珠寶，更添美態。她與同期許多珠寶藏家一樣，把古董珠寶重新設計鑲嵌以緊貼潮流，只有少數裝飾藝術風格的珠寶能以原有樣貌傳世。其中一枚正是這次上拍的卡地亞別針。

1953年，哈理森·威廉斯於橡樹角逝世，把大筆遺產留予莫娜。一年後，她下嫁俾斯麥的孫兒愛德華，俾斯麥伯爵（Edward, Count von Bismarck）。二人後來移居歐洲，1956年，他們在巴黎的紐約大道34號（34 Avenue de New York）購置一座大廈，由她全盤翻新。莫娜熱衷於招待賓客，艷光四射，無論在巴黎還是在卡布里均享負盛名，其賓客名人雲集，溫莎公爵夫婦、邱吉爾、航運大亨阿里士多德·歐納西斯（Aristotle Onassis）及歌唱家瑪莉亞·卡拉斯（Maria Callas）均曾是座上賓。她身穿華衣美服，佩戴亮麗珠寶，永遠明艷照人。

俾斯麥伯爵終在1970年逝世，及後莫娜嫁予烏貝托·德·馬丁尼（Umberto de Martini），婚姻不甚愉快，馬丁尼在1979年因車禍離世。晚年，莫娜在巴黎度過平靜生活，1983年逝世，享年86歲。以莫娜命名的基金會在巴黎成立，透過藝術及文化，促進美法兩國交流，莫娜的美麗傳奇遂得以延續。

1986年，日內瓦蘇富比有幸呈獻莫娜·俾斯麥的珠寶故藏。其珠寶收藏反映她對瑰麗奇石的熱愛，更印證她對高雅品味生活的不息追求。
