  • Cloisonné, gilt-bronze, glass, paint
each in the form of a baluster vase, the rounded sides rising from a spreading foot to a waisted neck, surmounted by a perforated balustrade with eight lotus panels, each side with a glass panel painted with a frieze of foliate scrolls around a lotus flower blossoming between two bands of stylised ruyi, the two other faces in gilt bronze and champlevé enamels decorated in relief with foliage and lotus, each with a small quatrelobed panel painted with similar decoration, all raised on a base enamelled with rocks emerging from foaming waves and a large pedestal with four ruyi feet

Condition

The lantern on the left of the catalogue is in overall very good condition. The enamels are thick and vibrant. There are some minor losses to the enamels, especially to the upper part of the base, and some minor pitting. There is slight wear to the rich gilding overall, especially on the base. The front glass panel seems to have been repainted with lighter colours at a later point and the back panel has a ca. 4.5 cm scratch starting at the bottom and extending up vertically . There are scratches to the painting. There are losses to the gold filler securing the smaller panels, with one slightly chipped on the upper right corner. The inside yellow silk upholstery is insolated and shows some humidity stains. The lantern on the right of the catalogue illustration is in overall good condition. The vase is leaning very slightly to one side. One side of the top balustrade has been replaced. The enamels are thick and vibrant. There are some minor losses to the enamels and some minor pitting. There is slight wear to the rich gilding overall, especially on the base. The inside yellow silk upholstery is insolated, stained and partly detached on one side.
