skilfully worked in the form of a recumbent horse turning its head sharply to rest on its rounded back, with the front left leg raised and its hind hooves tucked beneath its body, the tail and mane finely detailed with incisions, the tail rendered swept to the side, the polished stone of a pale celadon colour accentuated with russet patches cleverly worked as its dappled coat

Condition
The carving is in very good condition with the exception of an approx. 2mm., shallow nick to the edge of the right front hoof, nibbles to the end of the left front hoof and it should be noted that the stone is of a slightly darker tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.

本品隨形巧作，刻劃細膩，駿馬形態生動，俊逸閑定，造型豐腴，栩栩如生，誠為珍品。玉匠因材施藝，成品更見獨特。本玉原材帶褐斑，藝匠巧用褐斑模仿清宮御廄名馬，該馬曰騏，清宮畫作數幅均有描繪，包括意大利傳教士、宮廷畫師郎世寧作《百駿圖》（1728年作）（圖1），現藏於台北故宮博物院。該圖描繪壯闊山水河岸，駿馬牧放，品種、姿態各有不同，窮五年心血成畫，可見雍正及乾隆二帝愛驥。而該圖描繪入微，可推斷郎世寧以清宮御廄馬匹為藍本，騏馬位佔卷軸正中，可見地位非凡。
比較一褐斑玉馬例，尺寸較大，風格相近，出自伍夫爵士收藏，《伍夫收藏中國玉器》，倫敦蘇富比，2013年，編號102，同展另見一對青白玉例，尺寸較大，編號101；倫敦大英博物館收藏另一例，圖見Jessica Rawson，《Chinese Jade. From the Neolithic to the Qing》，倫敦，1995年，圖版16:20；第三例出自H. Tutein Nolthenius收藏，曾展於《 Oosterse Schatten – 4000 Jaar Aziatische Kunst》，荷蘭國家博物館，阿姆斯特丹，1954年，編號84；尚有一例，售於倫敦蘇富比1961年3月31日，編號171。劍橋費茲威廉博物館收藏一例，尺寸更大，載於林政升，《The Immortal Stone.
