carved in various levels of relief depicting two scholars conversing on a rocky outcrop beneath pine trees in a mountainous river landscape, the river and the sky in black, the reverse with the scene in mirror image, all within a border of scrolling foliage on two later gilt-wood animal head feet

This screen is missing its original stand and has had later gilt wood feet added to it. There is some damage and repairs to the lacquer to the frame to the top corners of each side and some chips to the lacquer to some of the outer edges. There is also extensive cracking and discoloration to the lacquer to both sides, with some areas of restoration and repairs to each of the sides that border the design. There is an area of lacquer missing to the underside edge.
