- lacquer, wood boxes
comprising a box of circular form, the flat cover carved through the deep layers of cinnabar lacquer with a scene depicting a scholar inside a pavilion, in a rocky garden setting with pine and paulownia trees, reserved on diaper grounds; the second of quatrefoil form, the cover carved with a butterfly above a narcissus flower, with a lingzhi stem at the base, both with sides decorated with a keyfret border, the interior and base lacquered black, two Japanese wood boxes
Condition
Circular box: This is in good condition, but has some cracks to the lacquer to the upper surface of the cover, and a minor crack to the inner rim of the box. There is also some minor cracking to the lacquer to the interior of the cover.
Quatrefoil box - this has some cracking to the upper surface of the cover and the base has been re-lacquered. There is some cracking to the lacquer to the interior surfaces.
