of quatrefoil section, the top of the cover deftly carved in relief with a mountainous landscape depicting a small bridge in the foreground, with leafy shrubs behind cragged peaks of various heights and pine growing from overhanging rocks, all reserved on a finely incised ground of cresting waves in gilt, the sides similarly decorated with a band of scrolling foliage and waves, the sides of the box skilfully worked in relief with a wide key-fret band reserved against a wave ground, all divided by a band of waves above and a classic scroll below, the interior of the box intricately incised and gilt-decorated with a ferocious dragon, its menacing face framed by a flowy mane and the sinuous body terminating in a bifurcated tail, the stone of an attractive variegated tone of predominantly liver-red and beige tone suffused with faint violet inclusions, the details further accentuated by traces of paint

The box and cover have been broken and professionally refixed without any significant losses to the design. The decoration is all in tact.There are also typical minute nicks along the edges of the box and cover.
