註：傅山(1607-1684)字青主、僑山、公它等，名號甚多，入清後又名真山，號朱衣道人、觀化翁，山西陽曲（今山西太原市郊）人。通曉經史、諸子、釋老之學，著有《霜紅龕集》四十卷。長於書畫，精鑒賞，並開清代金石學之源。此外，傅山精通醫學，在文學上亦頗有造詣。
此書為傅山感懷山西故鄉西村的五言詩，收錄於《霜紅龕集》卷七。西村是傅山故里，他從幼年起直到甲申明亡前都寓居於此。全幅恣意狂奔、一氣呵成，行筆穩健沈著而又出奇變化，整體上氣勢連貫。傅山為清初書壇巨擘，其草書沿襲晚明以來的帖學傳統，融以個性的抒發，他主張“寧拙毋巧，寧醜毋媚，寧支離毋輕滑，寧直率毋安排，足以回臨池既倒之狂瀾矣。”傅山的這一書法理念直至今日仍被推崇，同時也是欣賞和理解其書法作品的原則。
此書雖無創作年代，但從“卅十年前舊作”一語中可確定為傅山晚年所作，當為感懷故鄉而寄情於筆墨。書幅左下有兩方著名畫家黃胄先生之藏印，可知曾為其收藏。
