黃永玉與黃苗子、郁風伉儷結識於四十年代，研書論畫，談文說藝，交誼逾一甲子，感情尤篤。日後郁風和黃苗子先後離世，黃永玉亦撰長文悼友。歷年來，兩人得畫家寫贈作品量夥且精，本幅寫於二○○五年，畫中粉荷一株，色淡清新，嬌嫩欲滴，背景色墨交融，晶瑩透亮，水氣瀰漫，似雨過荷塘。全畫構圖簡潔，鮮麗中有出塵之致，故極得苗公伉儷所賞，曾懸於客廳中。
