上款：「光晉」即唐煜隆（1901-1968），四川威遠人。一九三一年陸軍大學正則班第九期畢業。抗日戰爭期間，曾參加徐州會戰、武漢會戰。一九四○年任中央大學少將軍事主任教官。雖行伍出身，然好繪事，習篆刻，收金石，與于右任、沈尹默、謝無量等在渝文士往來頻仍，所收宋拓〈瘞鶴銘〉、宋拓〈張猛龍〉、明拓〈鄭文公〉等碑皆得眾人鑒定題跋。

唐氏與徐悲鴻結識於一九三七年，徐隨中央大學內遷重慶時期，曾撰文稱讚唐光晉作畫磅礴雄肆，有石濤韻味，並屢贈書畫。一九三八年，唐光晉離川抗日前，徐書「直搗黃龍穴，飛揚大漢風」巨聯以作鼓舞。

註：本幅題「寫於中國美術學院」，即指一九四二年八月，徐得時任資源部委員會副主任錢昌照相助，在石家花園籌辦之美術學院。他自任院長兼研究員，另聘研究員齊白石、張大千，副研究員張安治、孫宗慰等。該學院曾舉辦一些短期培訓班，隨著一九四六年悲鴻北上接收北平藝專，遂被併入藝專。
