註： 本幅以紅、黃二色畫鞭炮一串，一端牽繩懸掛，一端逶迤拖地，鮮明響亮，似聞爆竹響鳴，驚殘臘，帶春聲，應了古語「習俗天涯同爆竹」；更以濃墨筆筆勾寫聯繫之繩索，淡墨畫出爆竹之引信，狀物寫實之功，於此可見。紅燈籠斜置於地，是未及掛起，還是剛被弄翻？卻見鼠子二隻，一直立在外，昂頭縮爪，似作唧唧呼喚狀；另一膽大者翹臀俯身，泰半身已探入燈籠，啃食殘燭。白石老人又添紅燭一對於爆竹左側，沖天炮五隻在畫面下方，「沖天炮」者，乃湖南稱法，北京又呼「鑽天猴」，乃兒童過年最喜愛耍玩者，頓令全畫增添童趣。依款識畫風，本幅應為畫家二十年代早、中期作品，如此題材，極少以「鼠」入畫，有此安排，不知是否乃一九二四，即甲子鼠年，以示該年生肖？二三年中秋節後，白石搬至太平橋趙登禹路，與畫上署「城西太平橋外」相符。
