註：「茶熟菊黃」之題句早見於陳曼生（1768-1822）之作，後世多有畫家襲用，如蒲作英、吳昌碩等，皆以茗壺、秋菊入圖，大千、非闇亦循前人，惟畫面略有增飾，非闇寫折枝黃菊，瘦長曲折，花葉分綴螳螂，大千則補提梁壺，俱出諸寫意。雖未署年，按畫風攷之，應屬三十年代中期所出，蓋是時兩人於舊京過從甚密，常有合作，且非闇作畫尚多意筆，未轉攻徽宗工筆一路。
本幅另面谷僧所書晚唐詩人雍陶七絶兩首，給同一上款，署「乙亥秋」，由此可知創作年份應為一九三五年。另谷僧所鈐乃大千用印，許為未攜印章，故借鈐之，谷僧與大千似同籍四川，故同為「蜀客」。
