洛齊是中國內地八十年代後現代藝術運動和「書法主義」的主要倡導者，他以嶄新的「洛齊符號」開創了文字與圖像相結合的敘述方式，挑戰傳統的美學風格和語義功能。1986年，洛齊畢業於杭州中國美院版畫專業，之後留校任教並於歐洲、美國知名院校擔任訪問學者。在早年遊學的歷程中，洛齊深受西方抽象派藝術家Joan Miro以及Piet Mondrian影響，但作品中仍然保留純粹的東方文字特徵。本作《清石》畫面由豪放的墨線及大膽的色塊構成，隱約可見大篆及隸書的筆法，亦書亦畫，亦墨亦色，充滿現代感之餘體現了傳統文人畫中「書畫同源」的理念。層層墨跡和的濃厚的色彩堆疊、滲透，有節奏地從輕薄的宣紙表面營造出深度，在強烈的對比和擴張的力量之間，洛氏邀請觀眾領略他抽象卻詩意的內心世界。此幅作品亦曾於八十年代在中國美術學院展出。
