陳福善1905年生於巴拿馬，被譽為香港現代畫壇最具才華與天賦的藝術家之一。他憑著對藝術的熱愛，自學成才，作品中展現出他不斷對題材、媒介及技法的探索創新，成就多彩藝術生涯。《太平洋》（拍品編號810）是陳福善八十年代初期對水墨之外的媒材和抽象畫風格進行探索的典型佳作，與市場上常見的水墨人物畫風格形成鮮明對比。畫面形式雖然抽象，但整體構圖卻有陳氏山水畫結構的典型特徵。借鑒北宋山水中漸升視角的構圖傳統，陳氏於畫中展現一段奇幻的視覺之旅。首先，觀者被黑色背景上極富視覺衝突的筆觸與顏色引入畫面之中，緊接著在藍色海洋中逐漸找回平靜與秩序，最後在點綴以灑脫粉色筆觸的黃色遠景中放飛想思緒，自由翱翔。
1984年對陳福善來說意義重大，香港藝術館為他舉辦了大型回顧展，記錄他五十年來的卓越藝術成就。《無題（夕陽聚會）》（拍品編號811）即作於這一年，可謂其都市人物題材的代表作，記錄他對生活的觀察與體會。畫中用色大膽，線條靈動，圖案明快，筆觸極富流動性，描繪眾人在夕陽下聚會的生動場景。人物的衣著髮型誇張而充滿戲劇性，是陳氏都市題材的點睛之筆。相比同時期香港其他藝術家（如呂壽琨、王無邪等）寄情風景山水，陳氏對現代都市生活的詮釋卻聚焦人物及其思想情緒，可謂別具一格。
