馮明秋身兼劇作家、詩人、篆刻家及藝術家，在過去三十年間致力探索書法的藝術發展而廣為人知。他分別於1977年移居紐約和1986年至台灣後，選擇在香港定居，至今發展出逾百種書法風格。他於一九八〇年代創作了《安靜》這首詩，並持續將文字與不同的書法互換造成不同的組合。一九九〇年代後期，他使用在古典園林中發現的形狀入畫，像他早期畫作中的雙葫蘆形式，《雪花字》（拍品編號526）是另一列。
