李山是上海其中最重要的當代藝術家。他八十年代結合原始主義及抽象主義，創作了中國最早的一批抽象藝術作品。李山亦經歷一九八九年的中國現代藝術大展後，是九〇年代最早到國際藝術展覽的藝術家之一，其中最為著名的是以中性化政治人物為主題〈胭脂》系列，此系列讓藝術家與余友涵及王廣義等並列為九十年代政治波普的中堅。《無題》（拍品編號658）是李山與徐龍森及朱新建聯手於上海創作。三人聯手作品只有兩件，作品原為徐龍森收藏的古董傢俱，後由李山以〈胭脂〉風格繪畫櫃門，徐龍森負責兩側，而朱新建則負責衣櫃內格。李山的主體為中性化的美國總統克林頓，充份展現〈胭脂〉系列的精髓，同時，徐龍森的左右兩側分別以拿著中國國旗的兵馬俑及拿著美國國旗的林肯，衣櫃裡面則是朱新建著名的春宮情色繪畫。作品層層遞進，衣櫥的外圍代表著中西文化的衝突，打開卻是代表著中國傳統文化的春宮繪畫，尤如一件充滿心思考量的藝術裝置，代表著九十年代中國與西方的文化交流景象。
