陳子畦乃清初紫砂名家，傳為陳鳴遠之父，盛名一時，乾隆年間吳騫，《陽羨名陶錄》，述及陳氏仿明萬曆陶人徐友泉最佳。參考一件陳氏款瓜棱壺，展出於《北山汲古：宜興紫砂》，香港中文大學文物館，香港，2015年，編號9。
小巧像生陶製瓜果菱角，逼真自然，別有奇趣，深得宜興陶人所尚。兩件陳鳴遠款紫砂菱角，曾展出於《紫泥清韻：陳鳴遠陶藝研究》，香港中文大學文物館，香港，1997年，編號74、75，並論及另一件陳子畦款宜興菱角，錄於龐元濟，《虛齋名陶錄》，卷2，頁41。
