The lively ancestor couple is a classic portrayal of the marriage pairs of the Ixtlán style, each figure displaying an accoutrement denoting their societal roles. Here the male wields the crescentic axe and the female balances a striped bowl and holds a small fan. Their broad stout bodies are ornamented with fine jewelry and elaborate clothing that denote their elevated status.
