Condition

There are minor chips and bruises to the rims and fragile extremities, the most severe measuring 0.1 cm at the rim. Otherwise good condition.

This finely carved brushpot, skilfully carved in rock crystal in imitation of bamboo, belongs to a series of rare miniature objects made from rock crystal for the scholar's table. A plain rock crystal brushpot of similar size, inscribed with a Qianlong yuyong mark, and illustrated by Gerard Tsang and Hugh Moss, Arts from the Scholar's Studio, Hong Kong, 1986, cat.no. 130, was sold in these rooms, 23rd October 2005, lot 107, from the Mary and George Bloch collection.
