As visible in the catalogue photo, there are typical age cracks as expected. By tradition, the original classic scroll border on the exterior appears to have been later removed, possibly to due to damage, and relacquered in Japan in negoro technique, which is most likely to be of pre-Tokugawa period (early 17th century). Other small bruises and minor chips.

此盤雕刻深邃立體，佈局繁複細密，盡顯元代雕漆工藝之成熟。元代雕漆以紋飾突顯、佈局緊密為特徵。本品可堪元代雕漆之典範，其髹漆厚實，所雕紋飾渾厚圓潤，層次豐富，枝葉飽滿，舒卷自如。

可參考一類例，飾三朵牡丹紋，花團錦簇，枝葉繁茂，刊於《中國藝術國際展覽會》，皇家藝術學院，倫敦，1935年，編號1027，先後展於倫敦東方陶瓷學會《明代藝術》特展，倫敦，1957年，編號231，以及《蒙古人統治下的中國藝術》，克里夫蘭博物館，克里夫蘭，1968年，編號294，後售於倫敦蘇富比1976年12月14日，編號217。山內家族舊藏還有一例，可資比較，售於香港佳士得2006年5月30日，編號1527。

另可參考一風格與此相類、但雕飾萱花之品，曾屬 E. Balla 教授和 Dr. W. Balla 舊藏，售於倫敦蘇富比1979年12月 12日，編號151， 轉入英國鐵路養老基金收藏，後再度售於倫敦蘇富比1989年12月12日，編號41。仇焱之舊藏也有一剔紅盤例，盤心雕牡丹盛綻，伴以小花嫩葉，先後售於倫敦佳士得1967年11月27日，及 香港蘇富比1994年5月3日，轉由李氏家族收藏，再售於香港佳士得2012年11月28日，編號2083。
