  • Cloisonne
finely cast with a tapered body rising from a rounded base to a broad prominent shoulder and curving inward to the mouthrim, the exterior brightly decorated in cloisonné enamels with four large blooming lotus flowers alternating with four smaller lotus blossoms, all borne on undulating leafy scrolls issuing curling tendrils against the brilliant greenish-turquoise ground and below a ruyi band bordering the mouthrim, the rounded base decorated with a stylised shou roundel encircled by a stylised pink band and a border of billowing red and white lingzhi-shaped lappets

Condition

There are small areas of infilling. Rubbing to the gilding at the rim. Other general surface wear.

Cloisonné enamel alms bowls of this brilliance and quality are rare, mostly found with Qianlong reign marks and of the period, such as two in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum, Enamels, vol. 2, Cloisonné in the Qing Dynasty, Beijing, 2011, pls. 260-1, the latter of smaller size.
