carved as a boy holding a well-hollowed large vase with his left hand placed at the front of the vessel and the right arm on the vessel's shoulder at the back, the vessel with tapered sides rising from a countersunk base to an angular shoulder and surmounted by a slightly flaring neck, the boy depicted adorned in loose robes and rendered with a serene facial expression, the stone of a rich reddish-orange colour subtly highlighted with attractive milky-white streaks

Condition

There are minute surface scratches, but otherwise good condition.

Carnelian was highly prized at the Qing Court, and utilised for the production of playthings, snuff bottles and other small intricately carved scholar's objects.
