The waterpot is in good condition except for a circular kiln flaw of 1.8 cm to the middle of the body, now possibly ground/polished. Small areas adjacent to the flaw are also slightly polished. There is also a shallow flake to the body of each foot.

此水盂器形飽滿，釉質細膩溫潤，精巧不凡，甚為南宋文人雅士所好。此器用於盛放研墨所需清水，較少引人注目，然卻為博學好古之鑒藏家所珍視。水盂常配水滴一同使用，水滴由盂中汲水，滴入墨硯以融墨成汁。

本品屬南宋官窰所製。公元1127年，南宋遷都臨安（今杭州），時北方各窰（如河南寶豐汝窰等）已不便續供御瓷，遂於杭州另設官窰燒製宮廷用瓷。郊壇下窰即為如此，其址位於今杭州南部烏龜山。

西方舊藏中見少量小型水盂例，如 Ingram 收藏一例，展於《Mostra d’Arte Cinese》，義大利總督宮，威尼斯，1954年，圖錄編號451；其他數例分別見於 George J. Lee，《Selected Far Eastern Art in the Yale University Art Gallery》，紐黑文及倫敦，1970年，圖版313；Walter Hochstadter，〈Early Chinese Ceramics in the Buffalo Museum of Science〉，《Hobbies》，卷25，第5期，紐約，1946年，圖版63；及《龍泉集芳》，東京，1976年，卷1，圖版467。另有三例，皆售於倫敦蘇富比，其一為 Lindberg 收藏， 售於1978年12月12日，編號179；其二售於1992年6月9日，編號136；其三屬 Carl Kempe 博士舊藏，售於2008年5月14日，編號307，載 Bo Gyllensvärd，《Chinese Ceramics in the Carl Kempe Collection》，斯德哥爾摩，1964年，圖版134。

另有兩罕見配水滴例，其一為 Walter Sedgwick 夫人舊藏，後為Carson上校伉儷遞藏，售於倫敦蘇富比1968年7月2日，編號109，及1994年6月7日，編號298；另一為 Eli Lilly 收藏，展於《Beauty and Tranquility: The Eli Lilly Collection of Chinese Art》，印第安納波利斯藝術博物館，印第安納波利斯，1983年，圖6。
