modelled on an Islamic metal or jade prototype, the globular body painted with stylised blooms, each carefully picked out with feathery petals, all borne on an undulating stem issuing leafy tendrils, between a key-fret band at the shoulder and a classic scroll around the foot, the wide, straight neck partly scalloped and painted with similar petals enclosing spearhead lappets, separated from the body by a raised rib, the handle with a protruding flange, painted with evenly spaced dots within double line borders and terminating to a trefoil pencilled with ruyi scrollwork, inscribed with a horizontal six-character reign mark on the globular body just below the key-fret opposite the handle, the recessed base unglazed, revealing the buff-coloured body

宣德（1426-35年） 一朝為中國青花瓷之鼎盛時期，而本拍品又為宣德瓷器當中最獨特、最珍罕的器形之一。明憲宗擅藝好雅，因此在位期間，御瓷興盛，質臻藝絕，其中又以御窰青花尤為出眾，於清代備受推崇，連帶早明各朝珍品於清宮檔案中均稱宣德青花。

永樂（1403-24年）、宣德兩朝皆製瓷器花澆，形制大同小異。永樂年間，御窰亦有燒製白釉花澆，皆無款。如此花澆，以伊斯蘭金屬器作摹本。1405-1433年間，穆斯林將軍鄭和下西洋，明代早期瓷器深受伊斯蘭工藝文化影響，本品即為一例。此類花澆似乎深得雍正帝（1723-35在位）青睞，兩幅雍正《古玩圖》，記錄清世宗御藏珍器，分別斷代1728及1729年，畫中可見三件早明花澆，形飾相近，下承木座，其一出自大維德爵士舊藏，現存大英博物館，其二現存倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館，參考《盛世華章》，英國皇家藝術學院，倫敦，2005-6年，編號168 and 169。

相近金屬及玉器例，見於十五及十六世紀伊斯蘭工藝，唯本品器型，基礎或源自更早期波斯原型。參考一例，製於十或十一世紀東伊朗，以及四銅器例，分別為青、紅及黃銅 ，圖見Assadullah Souren Melikian-Chirvani，《Islamic Metalwork from the Iranian World. 8th-18th Centuries》，倫敦，1982年，編號8、109、113-4及116，唯五例皆帶圈足，或曾帶圈足。亦可比較一伊斯蘭玉器例，斷代1450-1500年，無圈足，載於 David Roxburgh 編，《Turks: A Journey of a Thousand Years, 600-1600》，英國皇家藝術學院（展覽圖錄），倫敦，2005年，編號184；再比一白玉帶圈足例，製於撒馬爾罕1417至1449年，見馬文寬， ，英文版見馬文寬，，李寶平、Bruce Doar 及 Susan Dewar 編，《Porcelain and Society》，《China Archaeology and Art Digest》，卷3，第4期，2000年6月，頁7-38，圖20。畫作《The Sultan and His Court》（約1450-1460年作）描繪蘇丹王及其親兵，畫中可見數件青花器，其一為花澆，圖錄於 John Carswell，《Blue & White: Chinese Porcelain Around the World》，倫敦，2000年，圖67。此外尚可參考一件十五世紀中期伊斯蘭陶 製花澆，上施青花中式龍紋，見 Margaret Medley，，《Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong Bulletin》，第6期，1982-1984年，圖版15。

如此形飾之花澆，因其風格獨特，故乃宣德瓷器中最著名之一，記載甚詳，然而傳世例作甚少。一例清宮舊藏，圖見《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集．青花釉裏紅（上）》，上海，2000年，圖版120，同書並載一例，上繪纏枝蓮紋 ，圖版121，兩例皆見於王光堯、江建新主編，《明代宣德御窯瓷器－景德鎮御窯遺址出土與故宮博物院藏傳世瓷器對比》，北京，2015，圖版72-73。再比清宮舊藏一例，現藏台北故宮博物院，曾展於《明代宣德官窰菁華特展圖錄》，台北，1998年，編號12。上海博物館亦藏兩例，其一載於汪慶正，《青花釉裏紅》，香港，1993年，圖版74，另一為破片重組例，圖載於載陸明華，《上海博物館藏品研究大系：明代官窯瓷器》，上海，2007年，圖版3-28。尚有一例，載於 Helen D. Ling 及仇焱之，《抗希齋珍藏歷代名瓷影譜》，卷2，香港，1950年，圖版92。

此外尚可參考各國藏例，包括大維德爵士收藏一例，現存倫敦大英博物館，圖載於《Oriental Ceramics. 此類花澆 ，鮮見於拍賣場。紐約 Thomas Cole 伉儷及趙從衍珍藏一例，售於倫敦蘇富比1974年7月8日，編號188，後兩度易手於香港蘇富比，先後為1987年5月19日，編號236及2002年10月30日，編號 283，曾展於《Ming Porcelains: A Retrospective》, China House Gallery, 華美協進社，紐約， 1970-1971年，編號11，並圖載於 Duncan Macintosh，《Chinese Blue and White Porcelain》，倫敦，1986年，圖版23。另一例出自蘇林庵收藏，售於香港蘇富比1995年10月31日，編號314。再比一例，曾展於《Yuan and Early Ming Blue and White Porcelain》，Eskenazi，倫敦，1994年，編號25。

另比一帶宣德款青花纏枝花卉紋花澆，先後為仇焱之（約1950年）、胡惠春及玫茵堂收藏，售於紐約蘇富比1985年6月4日，編號2，後售於香港蘇富比2011年4月7日，編號53，圖載Helen D. Ling 及仇焱之，《抗希齋珍藏歷代名瓷影譜》，卷1，香港，1950年，圖版38，以及康蕊君，《玫茵堂中國陶瓷》，倫敦，1994-2010年，卷2，編號674。另一窰燒失誤破片重組例，出土自景德鎮明代御窰遺址，載於展覽圖錄《景德鎮出土明宣德官窰瓷器》，鴻禧美術館，台北，1998年，圖版23。
