高行健為世界知名小說家、劇作家及翻譯家，尤以翻譯塞繆爾·貝克特及歐仁·尤內斯庫的作品著稱，2000年更成為首位獲得諾貝爾文學獎的華裔作家。他不僅縱橫文壇，水墨造詣亦深。高氏在父親的指導下學習素描、水彩、雕塑、書法與歐洲油畫，希望有朝一日能夠在大學深造藝術。然而因緣際會，他最終選擇去北京外國語大學學習法語，1962年畢業後在北京從事翻譯工作。高行健並未放棄繪畫與寫作，散文、短篇小說和戲劇都隨手拈來，直到1983年他被禁止在中國大陸出版任何文章或執導任何戲劇作品。1989年，高氏離開故鄉，開始在法國定居，他現駐巴黎，繼續創作發人深省的作品，尤其關注飽含文化的主題，展露出自己敏銳的洞察力與卓越的創造力。《夢中山》（拍品編號510）以抽象手法描繪了一個空靈飄渺的世界。同傳統國畫類似，此作選取廣闊視角，觀者彷彿身在高點，從天堂望向塵世。由濃轉淡的流暢墨調見證了畫家的嫻熟技藝，傳統國畫筆墨中強調的「墨分五色」——焦、濃、重、淡、清——也在同一張畫卷上徐徐展開。
