內在山水

1958年起，趙無極排除對自然現象的援引，邁向純粹的抽象。其抽象繪畫在六十年代達到頂峰，1962年的《無題》（拍品編號1007）中，黑紅相交堆疊而匯聚，形成強烈的對比，一種如是生發中的造化運行感生於其中。畫心覆以細小之白線，扭轉而舞動著一股內在活力，萌發以黑色之筆觸，後遞嬗以不同層次之橘紅。對趙無極來說，中國繪畫自十六世紀即失去了創造力，此後沿襲古畫偉大的傳統，墨守筆墨之成規，將美和技巧混為一談，而不再有想像和變化的空間。而他此時期之水彩作品，則在具有狂草力度的線條中，發展個人獨特的內在山水。此件作品為趙無極於1962年贈予友人皮耶（Pierre Descargues）與其妻凱瑟琳（Catherine Valogne）之作，皮耶集記者、藝評、攝影師、及作家身份於一身，活躍於法國藝術圈近半個世紀，而此作正巧見證了趙無極與皮耶之珍貴情誼。
