Condition
The movement is running and chronograph function working at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.
The dial with extremely attractive tropical patina to the subsidiary dials. Few very minor stains throughout and minor dent to the edge of the hour counter, no affecting the beauty of the dial. Dial and hands glowing for only a couple of seconds after having been exposed to the black light.
Case in good condition, polished in the past and with the usual light scuffs and scratches throughout consistent with age and use. The stainless steel bezel was probably a request from the original owner.
The crown and pushers replaced, as often with vintage pieces.
Bracelet: 7835/19, end links 357.
Overall: very attractive piece, "fresh to the market" with conservative estimate.

The reference 6263 was produced in the early 1970s until 1987. With its cousin, ref. 6265, it is the last evolution of the manual winding Daytona.
It is fitted with Calibre 727, the evolution of calibre 722-1. Rolex improved the calibre's performance by changing the balance from 18,000 to 21,600 vibrations per hour which noticeably increased the precision.
Reference 6263 is illustrated in Pergola, C., Mazzariol, S. & Dosso, G., Rolex Daytona a legend is born, pp. 132-168.
Calibre 727 is illustrated in op.cit., pp. 122-125.
