明萬曆 青花魚藻紋蒜頭瓶 《大明萬曆年製》款

sturdily and robustly potted after archaic bronze protoypes with a pear-shaped body supported on a short foot, tapering to a tall neck with a garlic-head mouth and upright mouthrim, the body decorated with the Ming dynasty design of four fish, the mackerel, whitefish, carp and freshwater perch, swimming amongst clumps of lotus and undulating water weeds, the pond further detailed with other water plants as well as several crab and shrimp, the flowing waters rendered with freely painted billowing streaks, below a band of florets and leaves and above stylised scrollwork skirting the footrim, the neck painted with flowering buds and blossoms, including narcissus and peony blooms, the bulbous garlic-head mouth encircled with a band of prunus blossoms wreathed by leaves and bordered with pendent and upright lotus petals, all below the mouthrim painted with a 'classic' scroll band interrupted with a cartouche enclosing a six-character reign mark

As typical of large Wanli porcelains, there are typical firing imperfections, including fritting at the rim, firing lines and stained glaze crackles at the luting lines. Other minor bruises and general surface wear.

蒜頭瓶屬萬曆大型官瓷之佳器，此件青花瓶頸飾嬌蕊枝葉，腹綴魚藻紋，筆法嫻熟自在，生趣盎然。明代盛行四魚紋，鯖、白魚、鯉、鮭，象徵「清白廉潔」之意，水中蟹蝦則祝意仕途高陞，萬事順心。

蒜頭瓶為數甚稀，多飾五彩或青花，Charles B. Hoyt 舊藏一件青花蒜頭瓶，現藏波士頓美術館，編號49.24；北京故宮博物院藏一件尺寸較小蒜頭瓶，頸繪梅枝紋，載於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集．青花釉裏紅（中）》，北京，2000年，圖版165。柏林 Schlossmuseum 收藏一件五彩作例，略小，頸部及底部紋飾與此瓶相近，刊於 Robert Schmidt，《Chinesische Keramik von der Han-Zeit bis zum XIX. Jahrhundert》，法蘭克福，1924年，圖版69；另一件錄於《明清の美術》，東京，1982年，圖版118；第三例，尺寸亦小，2012年11月6日售於倫敦佳士得，編號299。倫敦蘇富比曾售出一件五彩蒜頭瓶，書成化仿款，1988年12月13日，編號186，再度於香港蘇富比2013年10月8日售出，編號3101。

蒜頭瓶器形，取材高古青銅器，參考戴潤齋舊藏一對西漢青銅器，曾二度售於紐約蘇富比，1975年3月12、13日，編號157，及2011年3月22日，編號191。蒜頭瓶亦得成化青花瓷影響，比較一件青花蓮紋瓶，梨形瓶身，蓮苞形口，2007年10月9日售於香港蘇富比，編號1557。

現存五彩蒜頭瓶，紋飾多樣，東京松岡美術館珍藏一瓶，繪五彩龍鳳穿梭纏枝花葉紋間，錄於《東洋陶磁名品圖錄》，東京，1991年，圖版94；另一例出自 A.A. Ballard 舊藏，1975年6月9日售於倫敦佳士得，編號79；第三例曾展於《景德鎮千年展》，山口縣立荻美術館，2007年，圖錄封面，2008年10月8日售於香港蘇富比，編號2655。亦見雙龍紋蒜頭瓶，如一例刊載於，John Ayers，《The Baur Collection. Geneva》，卷2，日內瓦，1969年，圖版A203；台北國立故宮博物院有一瓶，收錄於《明磁名品図錄》，卷3，東京，1978年，圖版99。Lindley-Scott 故藏一件龍鳳紋蒜頭瓶，尺寸略小，1945年7月4日售於倫敦蘇富比，編號80，刊載於 Soame Jenyns，《Ming Pottery and Porcelain》，倫敦，1988年，圖版187；鴻禧美術館珍藏一瓶，出版於史彬士，《中國歷代陶瓷選集》，台北，1990年，圖版110；洛杉磯蘇富比曾亦售出一例，1981年11月2日，編號304。

萬曆蒜頭瓶另一常見紋飾為飛禽水鳥，參考東京出光美術館藏一對瓶，展出於《嘉靖、萬曆の赤絵》，東洋陶磁美術館，大阪，1995年，編號22；台北故宮博物院藏一對尺寸較大蒜頭瓶，錄於《明磁名品図錄》，卷3，東京，1978年，圖版100，及劉良佑，《中國歷代陶瓷鑑賞．明官窰》，台北，1991年，頁255（右上）；北京故宮博物院也有一瓶，載於《中國陶瓷全集》，卷13，上海，2000年，圖版109，應與此件拍品尺寸相當，但口沿有傷。還有一器曾展出於《International Exhibition of Chinese Art》，皇家藝術學院，倫敦，1935年，編號1912，1953年3月24日售於倫敦蘇富比，編號62；香港佳士得曾售一瓶，1997年11月5/6日，編號1050；還有一例售於香港蘇富比2007年4月8日，編號525；另一件蒜頭瓶錄於朱湯生，《中國瓷器－莊紹綏收藏》，香港，2009年，圖版26，2005年10月23日由香港蘇富比售出，編號456。
