Condition
This games table is in good condition, but it is missing its top. There is a 22cm horizontal crack to one side that runs to one of the counter drawers, and the feet have been slightly reduced. There are various nicks and scratches to the various surfaces.

本品造形簡潔，明麗典雅，置高束羅鍋棖及馬蹄足，盡顯黃花梨之溫潤金黃。羅鍋棖高束垛邊，充分承托整桌，並予人寬闊空間，方便入坐。參考一相類黃花梨連霸王棖方桌，藏於費城藝術博物館，載於Robert Hatfield Ellsworth，《Chinese Furniture. Hardwood Examples of the Ming and Early Ch’ing Dynasties》，紐約，1971年，圖版73；另有一例，藏於克利夫蘭藝術博物館，圖版74；再有一例，售於紐約蘇富比，1987年10月9／10日，編號398；另一同售於紐約蘇富比，2015年11月11日，編號12；更有一例，香港佳士得，2008年12月3日，編號2531，一長桌屬Robert Hatfield Ellsworth收藏，售於紐約佳士得，2015年3月17日，編號44。見一同款方桌，不連棋盤，兩度售於紐約蘇富比，2001年10月19日，編號193及2006年11月21日，編號49。
此類品甚為實用，既可作餐桌，書桌，亦供賞物，雙陸、圍棋對弈。棋桌歷史久遠，早例上溯東漢（25－220年），供六博之用。連圍棋盤之例，源於唐代，至宋代愈見普遍。參考Sarah Handler，《Austere Luminosity of Chinese Classical Furniture》，柏克萊，2001年，頁187，據說唐玄宗好棋，「一次楊貴妃見玄宗棋局不妙，故意放其小狗，恣意跳動，搗亂棋盤，勝負不了了之，取得皇帝歡心。」
黃花梨，中國最珍重之硬木木材之一，色澤明亮，木紋典禮，微帶甜香。明清二朝用之製作上乘家具，藝匠巧用此材特質，製成家具平素光滑，古雅純樸，突顯其自然美態。又以海南降香黃檀為至上品，木色多樣，可從淺黃到紫赤。越南、老撾、緬甸、柬埔寨亦有產花梨，但與海南品種比較，紋較粗，色較暗。至清朝，黃花梨尤得宮廷珍視，乃御用家具之經典造材。黃花梨家具集藝術美感、技術工藝、實用價值及中華文化精髓於一身，被冠以「東方之珠」美譽，參見胡德生，《故宮博物院文物珍品選集•明式家具卷•清式家具卷》，冊2，北京，2008年，頁578。
