finely carved through the russet skin with wings neatly tucked around the body, the head turned sharply to the left looking over its back and holding a large lotus branch in its beak, the stone of celadon tone with traces of the russet skin, wood stand

The carving is in very good condition with the exception of a tiny neck to the edge of the lotus leaf on the underside.

本品造型溫婉自然，羽毛及鳥爪刻畫細膩入微。外緣呈黃褐色，卻頗見別緻，可見工匠隨形雕作，以免良玉餘廢。美國聖保羅市明尼蘇達州博物館曾展覽一件玉雕鴨擺件，鴨作回首狀，姿態與本品有異曲同工之妙， 見《Jade As sculpture》展覽圖錄，美國聖保羅市明尼蘇達州博物館，1975年，編號25。紐約蘇富比曾售出一件類例，1976年10月23日，編號51；另一件尺寸稍小，維多利亞和阿爾伯特博物館收藏，圖載於劉明倩，《Chinese Jades》，倫敦，2004年，圖版24（右）。可比較一件雕紋相似的玉件，斷代為明代，來自 Lt. Col. 與W.B.R. Neave Hill 夫人收藏，曾展於東方陶瓷學會主辦《Chinese Jade throughout the Ages 》展覽，維多利亞和艾伯特博物館，倫敦，1975年，圖錄編號361，並售於紐約佳士得2006年3月29日，編號202。
