of rectangular section, the baluster body rising from a splayed foot to broad shoulders below a flared mouth, the shoulder flanked by a pair of 'mythical beast' handles, each suspending a loose ring detailed with curling foliage, the facetted sides brightly decorated against a turquoise ground with lotus blooms borne on scrolling leafy tendrils, punctuated by a dividing band of ruyi-heads below the waisted neck and by upright lappets around the feet, all framed between key-fret bands around the mouth and foot, the base with a four-character reign mark within a double-square

蓮紋雙獸環耳方壺，琺瑯明豔鮮麗，器形取材高古青銅壺，細節設計反映乾隆帝尚古且喜好奇珍之品味。當朝造辦處玉作、瓷作、琺瑯作、木作之匠師，均得自宮藏古物中汲古創新。方壺紋飾設計，處處皆見巧心，壺上蓮華卷葉紋飾，可見極小的區塊亦細心填入多色琺瑯，漸色變化雅緻精妙，足見匠師高技。
掐絲琺瑯器色彩明豔，氣質富華，深得乾隆帝傾愛，詔命製作多樣琺瑯器陳設宮殿、案頭賞玩，為能應付如此大量需求，造辦處琺瑯作於乾隆六年（1741年），擴大編制增設其他六處作坊。工藝水平至高，類同此件拍品者，出自內廷造辦處，或廣州特造進貢。廣州造琺瑯歷史馳名，多數造辦處匠人均來自廣州。高宗一朝，內廷琺瑯作更得歐洲技術影響，色彩與設計上更得創新。康熙以降，歐洲傳教士攜入各式西洋琺瑯器獻貢，以博君王歡心。為了能摹製此類西式琺瑯，中西匠人通力合作之下，成功調製出更多色彩，比明代琺瑯器增加了超過二十種顏色。
一件類同設計之掐絲琺瑯獸環瓶，2008年5月27日售於香港佳士得，編號1872。參考一件清宮舊藏掐絲琺瑯罐，環耳近似本件拍品，器身飾饕餮紋，仍藏北京故宮，錄於《故宮博物院藏品大系：琺瑯器編2．清掐絲琺瑯》，北京，2011年，圖版167。
