暗花技法首見於宋定窰與邢窰，明清續作，暗花紋飾於施釉或素燒前，以針刻、刀刻或是模印作於瓷胎，僅以陰刻表現，無加彩，向光時隱約可見於透明釉下。或因永樂帝傾愛素白瓷器，暗花紋飾盛行於早明， 清康熙帝重視官窰造瓷，暗花技術進而發展至臻。

日內瓦鮑爾珍藏一件白釉龍紋盌，錄於《世界陶磁全集》，東京，1983年，卷15，圖版249。玫茵堂收藏一對作例，載於康蕊君，《玫茵堂中國陶瓷》，倫敦，2010年，卷4（II），圖版1777。參考葉義醫生舊藏一盌，展出於敏求精舍展覽，《明清一色釉瓷》，香港藝術館，香港，1977年，編號137，1985年5月22日售於香港蘇富比，編號200，再度售於香港佳士得1990年10月8日，編號603。Brian S. McElney 收藏也有一例，展於《Porcelain of the High Qing》，Art Gallery of Great Victoria，維多利亞，1983年，編號32。Stephen Junkunc III 珍藏還有一盌，2008年3月19日售於紐約佳士得，編號648。

逐珠五爪龍紋亦可見於康熙年製白釉盃，如 Hall 家族珍藏一對白釉盃，2000年5月2日售於香港蘇富比，編號521，載於朱湯生，《中國瓷器—莊紹綏收藏》，香港，2009年，圖版59。
