the white stone intricately worked on both sides to depict a lobed panel framed by a tasselled and beribboned stylised chime, each panel enclosing a scene of a paragon of the 'Twenty-four Filial Exemplars' below their respective titles, one side depicting Cai Shun kneeling next to two baskets before a rebel chief and his attendant, below an inscription reading shi shen yi qi ('picking mulberries with two vessels'), the reverse with Min Sun pulling his dad in a carriage with his stepmother and two stepbrothers behind the carriage, the scene detailed with a pavilion in the background and an overhanging pine tree, below a panel enclosing the characters dan yi shun mu ('obeying mother in thin clothes')
Condition
The plaque is in overall good condition. There are minute flakes to the edges as expected with age, the largest measuring approx. 0.2 cm to the edge of one tassel.
