of ovoid form, with gently swelling sides rising to a subtle tapered opening, covered overall in a rich golden olive-green glaze speckled with yellow and brown and thinning to a deep caramel tone at the mouth, with the footrim dressed in a dark brown wash, the recessed base with a six-character seal mark
Condition
The vase is in overall fine condition with slight wear to the mouthrim.

A closely related vase from the Hosokawa collection was sold in these rooms, 8th October 2014, lot 3112; another of slightly smaller size, included in the exhibition Chinese Art from the Collection of James W. and Marilynn Alsdorf, Arts Club of Chicago, Chicago, 1970, cat. no. c73, was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 23rd March 1993, lot 741; and a third vase, from the collection of Robert Chang, was included in An Exhibition of Important Chinese ceramics from the Robert Chang Collection, Christie’s, London, 1993, cat. no. 52, and possibly the same that sold in our London rooms, 12th June 1990, lot 283.
Qianlong mark and period vases of this form are also known covered in guan and ru type gazes; a guan-type jar was included in the exhibition Qing Imperial Monochromes. The Zande Lou Collection, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai, 2005, cat. no. 35; another, from the W.W. Winkworth collection, was sold in our London rooms, 12th December 1972, lot 149; and a ru-type jar, from the collection of Robert Chang, was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 2nd November 1999, lot 503.
