註：本幅謂「臨鐵香鴻臚」，即晚清廣東名宦鄧承修（1841-1892）。鄧氏，惠陽人，咸豐十一年(1861)舉人，後援例捐官，分發刑部，輾轉升遷，累官至鴻臚寺正卿，故又以「鴻臚」稱之。其掌柏臺，敢言犯直，不畏權貴，得「鐵面御史」之名。又擅書法，字體瘦硬，勁如鐵鑄，風格剛直，恰如其人，為後世書家稱著。鄧爾雅寫此，以追慕同籍同宗先賢，惟書風流露，仍屬自我風格，寫來整篇間架挺直，一絲不苟，正與鐵香同。
