註:一九五三年,黎雄才赴武漢出任中南美術專科學校副教授,直到一九五八年方轉任廣州美術學院教職。本幅署「一九五八年寫於武漢」,應屬離任前所寫。
他五十年代好遊歷寫生,取實景為創作素材,復結合名山大川的自然面貌轉化成胸中丘壑。筆下所出不拘限於某地某景,而是畫中重現造化精神。故本幅無標示取景所在,既是肇慶,或出自峨嵋,又或得諸黃山,畫家著力處正是大自然的體勢氣魄,從另一形式彰顯河山壯麗,這正是他盛年時期特色所在,亦多體現於巨幛大幅上,本幅自屬最佳說明。
畫面結構規整自然,佈局見層次卻無堆砌板滯,老松翠嶺呈對角之勢,均是他典型構圖的陳現,熟練而不浮滑,色鮮而不寡薄。蒼松枝梢綴山禽一對,配以飛瀑急瀉,令畫中倍添動感,格外顯其經營之細緻。
