This brushpot is in good condition, but there is a flaw running across the rim and horizontally below the rim ( 3.5cm) to one side. There are two further flaws to the stone to the underside of the base to one side (8.5cm and 6cm).

此筆筒碩大，轉動筆筒時，即如打開卷軸，令人一見難忘，足證乾隆年間玉雕工藝登峰造極。本品構圖精細，描繪文人與侍從遨遊山水之盛景。筆筒刻畫岩石及人物之外形，對比生動、深不可測，巧妙捕捉飄逸渺遠之境。

本品紋飾乃繼承華夏書畫古風，將器物表面化作橫軸於其上作畫。轉動筆筒即為一景，觀者可從不同角度觀賞器物之美。乾隆對經學、詩詞、書法、藝術均興趣甚殷，而筆筒為文人必備之物，因此筆筒於乾隆年間風行一時。除各種文人志趣外，乾隆亦自視為文人領袖，尤對隱士風流甚為著迷，可見乾隆將個人志趣融入公眾形象之中。

相類作例曾於東方陶瓷學會之「古今中國玉器」展覽中展出，維多利亞及艾伯特博物館，倫敦，1975年，展覽圖錄，編號415。另有一例，先後為E.L. Paget，Sir J. Buchanan-Jardine、Sir Bernard Eckstein及伍夫爵士收藏，編號413，後展於「伍夫爵士收藏中國玉器展覽」，倫敦蘇富比，2013年，編號45；另有兩件售於紐約蘇富比，一件出自福格藝術博物館收藏（Fogg Art Museum），哈佛大學，劍橋，2008年3月18日，編號16，另一件售於1995年3月22日，編號28；尚有一件售於香港蘇富比1979年11月29日，編號449。

尚有一尺寸較大之筆筒，出自清宮舊藏，現寶蓄北京，圖刊於《故宮博物院藏品大系—玉器編第九冊，清朝》，北京，2011年，圖版7，同書另見一鏤雕作例，尺寸相近，圖版8；第三件為放山居故藏，售於倫敦佳士得1971年10月18日，編號145；尚有一件售於紐約佳士得1998年3月25日，編號349。
